Re: Sukkot: Public Displays of Jewish Pride

An outward display of one's Judaism should be a reflection of one's inner Jewishness. When we perform mitzvot, stuidy Torah, and live a moral life, the light of our soul illuminates our face. To love G-d with all our heart, soul, and might is very near to us, and can be enhanced by outward displays of mitzvot such as Tefillin, Tzizit, and charity. One must be careful, however, to not let displays of black coats, fur hats, and other apparel cover up a cold heart of stone. What does it profit a man if he attends synagogue daily, proudly displays his Judaism, but abuses his wife at home, is rude to his co-workers, and cheats others in business. One can spend all day in the study hall, or go out to the street to teach those with little knowlege of Judaism. Outward displays may mirror inner holiness, or cover up a fallen soul. You have to be the one to decide!
