Purim: Every Moment Counts
Every Moment Counts
The Midrash tells us that the in the merit of our matriarch Sarah’s one hundred and twenty seven righteous and meritorious years, her descendant, Esther, reigned over one hundred and twenty seven countries.
This astounding insight teaches us that every moment of worthwhile living is worth its weight in gold. (Or in this case, in real-estate value) A moment, of Sarah’s life bought a field, an hour bought a street, a day bought a neighborhood, a week bought a town. One-hundred-and-twenty-seven years bought one-hundred-and twenty-seven countries.
The Eulogy
The story is told of a famous rabbi who wrote a letter of condolence to a family who had lost a loved one. At the eulogy, a family friend cited this letter as proof of this man’s great stature. “If the rabbi took the time to write the family then the deceased must have been a man of great worth.”
When this comment was brought to the rabbi’s attention he replied that this brings home the realization that every moment is precious. “ If the two minutes in which I wrote that letter comforted an entire family then how can I face the many two minute increments that I have allowed to pass during my lifetime that I have not utilized correctly.
Every moment is precious every minute has great potential. Let us utilize our moments so that we accumulate a lifetime of accomplishment.
